REFERENCES

Goal: Inform the reader of all the sources you used to produce your paper and study.

Characteristics:

  • Include all printed material that you used as a resource to write your paper. That material might include, published research articles, published review articles, books, chapters from edited volumes, research protocols, websites, and your class text book or lab manual.

  • The specific format of the in-text citations and the references section will vary by assignment, discipline, and journal.

  • Follow whatever format is required; ask if you are uncertain.

Don’ts

  • Do not mix formatting styles; instead use one format consistently throughout the paper.

  • Do not ignore the details; instead take care to follow the specific guidelines for punctuation, capitalization, use of italics, etc.
